The Department of Arts and Culture placed an open call for Cultural Events, Touring Ventures and Public Art projects in November 2014, announcing that the call would be open continuously and that proposals would be reviewed quarterly. In the second quarter of 2015/16 a total number of 472 applications were received and reviewed. Of the total number reviewed, 60% of the proposals were for Cultural Events, 31% for Touring Ventures and 9% for Public Art. The total value of these proposals is in excess of R433 925 448.94, an amount that far exceeds the available funds.
As outlined in the figure below, the largest number of applications received were from the following provinces: Gauteng (42%), KwaZulu Natal (11%), Limpopo (9%), Western Cape (8%) and Eastern Cape (8). Applications from Mpumalanga, Free State, Northern Cape and North West make up 22%.
