The National Film and Video Foundation releases its Cycle 2 Funding results, calls for Cycle 3 Now open

The National Film and Video Foundation (NFVF), an agency of the Department of Arts and Culture, is pleased to announce its Quarter 2 Funding results. The announcement follows the NFVF Council meetings that took place on the 31st of August and 10th of September 2015.

Fiction Funding – Production:

During Cycle 1 funding period, fourteen (14) production applications were provided funding for the 2015/16 financial year. The number of applicants funded during this cycle demonstrates that the NFVF exceeded its funding targets by four (4), as the annual target approved for production funding for fiction was ten (10).

Therefore, during the Cycle 2 evaluation process, no production applications were assessed as the target for the year had already been met.

For Cycle 3, the NFVF would like to encourage interested applicants to apply for Development and TV Formats funding as funds are still available for these two funding categories.

All applicants that had applied for production funding for Cycle 2 are urged to apply in the new fiscal year (2016/17).

Non-Fiction Funding –  Development

Due to the volume of high quality applications received during Cycle 2, eighteen (18) applications were funded for Development Funding. As the target for the year is to fund fifteen (15) projects for Development, three (3) more applications were funded, resulting in the NFVF exceeding its target.

Therefore for Cycle 3 Non Fiction Funding, the call for applications are open for Production and Documentary Archive only.

Notably, the NFVF exceeded its target for both Fiction – Production  and Non Fiction -Development. This is an indication that the film industry is growing, resulting in an increase in the number of applications received by the NFVF. The NFVF will however remain committed to serving the industry, continuing with its objective of ensuring the development and growth of the industry as mandated by the NFVF Act.

Markets and Festivals Attendance Funding

For the markets and festivals attendance funding, the NFVF has exceeded its target for the financial year 2015/16. The target for the year is forty eight (48), however due to increasing number and quality of applications received in Cycle 1 and 2, the NFVF funded 64 applicants, exceeding the target by sixteen (16).

The NFVF therefore calls for applicants for the following areas of funding:

  • Fiction
