Africa Month festival of ideas continues to touch lives

Arts and Culture Minister Mr Mathi Mthethwa-fThe Minister of Arts and Culture, Mr Nathi Mthethwa will host a Social Cohesion Summit on Friday, 29 May 2015 at 07:30 at uMhlathuze Multi-Purpose Sports Ground in Richards Bay, KwaZulu Natal. This summit will amongst others seek to give a special focus on empowering youth as our future leaders, commemorate 60th Anniversary of the Freedom Charter and 21Years of Democracy. Speakers will include Nation Assembly Speaker Baleka Mbethe, former Robben Island prisoner and anti-Apartheid activist Ahmed Kathrada, Department of Social Development Minister Bathabile Dlamini and other prominent South Africans.

The Department of Arts and Culture continues to lead and coordinate nation-wide Africa Month Festival of Ideas & Cultural Exchange for the month of May and beyond. Africa Month Festival of Ideas & Cultural Exchange seeks to create a platform and network for creative artists from all genres to reclaim the leadership role in promoting Pan African unity to strengthen social, cultural, economic and political integration among African nations.

The month-long cultural program is expected to provide a strategic platform and network for conversations about the African continent. As part of the celebrations, department has planned an exciting programme of activities place across the country through various forms of arts such as music, literature, theatre, visual arts, film, fashion, cuisines, seminars, exhibitions, lectures and panel discussions. Members of the media are invited to attend the events.

Africa Month activities scheduled for the period 27-31 May 2015 are as follows:

1. Africa Dialogue with Entrepreneurs

3. Poetry Festival
