Arts and Culture hosts Mzansi International Culinary Festival (MICF) to celebrate Africa Month

WeAreAfrica_BlogThe Department of Arts and Culture in partnership with Africa Meets Europe Cuisine will host Mzansi International Culinary Festival in celebration of Africa Month under the theme; We Are Africa – Opening the doors of learning and culture to promote peace and friendship from Cape to Cairo.” The Mzansi International Culinary Festival is a food extravaganza aimed at celebrating the rich culture of African cuisine and the culinary expertise of female chefs across the globe including farmers. The occasion will take place from 23 to 24 May 2015 at Tintswalo Waterfall Estate in Kyalami, Johannesburg.

The festival concept was launched in 2014 to spearhead women culinary leadership across the globe through skills development and transfer, mentorship, economic development and women empowerment including small, medium and micro enterprise development, transformation of the industry, innovation and culinary tourism.  The daily programme will entail food tasting and stalls, workshops, products from various African regions, live cooking demonstrations, interactive panel discussions and  performances.

The festival is part of Africa month activities aimed at promoting African identity, as well as to entrench African values and ethics in the continent. Full programme for the Africa Month is available on www.dac.gov.za.
